Evenings out in Nice on a budget

Hi. We are returning to Nice again next week (can't wait) but this year the budget is a bit tighter than in previous years.

I would appreciate any suggestions of places to eat out in the evening on a couple of occasions which will not cost the earth and allow us to splash out a bit on the remaining nights!

Thanks in anticipation.

The small restaurant O'Palermo, on the rue Masséna in the pedestrian district, has good food at reasonable prices. There are also a number of places in Vieux Nice; just walk around at look at the menus.

o'palermo has been shut for renovations for about 9 months but it was supposed to be re-opening around now but tehre were then issues with their gas meter and supply

I beleive the work was meant to have been done at the end of this past week but i don't know if they have finally re-opened

Taverne Massena in the Zone Pietone has just had a lightening refit. If you skip all the optional extras - starters, dessert, coffee and water, stick to wine by the pichet, (and don't tip!), you can get away with a reasonable priced meal for one of Nice's best pizzas. Cheaper still, ask for just one pizza "a partager" - half each, but two plates and cutlery.Pretty cheapskate but you said on a tight budget, thats no reason not to still have the best.

I recommend La Petite Biche on rue d"Alsace-Lorraine - our favourite place for excellent value dining in the city. This restaurant serves traditional French/Niçoise cuisine and they offer a super-value prix-fixe menu.

Bon appétit!

If you'll settle for buying pizza at a window and eating nearby, try the place in Vieux Nice near the rue du Marché. For that matter, if you wander around those narrow streets you'll find a fair number of places designed for low budgets. A slightly more up-market spot would be Spaghettisimo, on the Cours Saléya.

If you can find your way to the Carrefour in Nice, there are several cafés and mini-restaurants where you can get a decent meal for not a lot of money.
