Bastille day and events in Nice

What is happening for Bastille day in Nice? will all the shops be closed? Fireworks? Where is the best place to watch fireworks?

We'll be in Nice for a week from Thursday. Are there any events on in the surrounding towns which should not be missed?

Fete National (no-one calls it Bastille Day here) falls on a Sunday, so its status as a national holiday and being a Sunday means its a "holiday" plain and simple. Sundays have their own shop opening habits - most are closed, some are open. Which often depends on the time of year. Schools out its high season (and prices) and its the time of the Sales. A lot will be open.

The firework display will be the best in the year. Gather on the Prom to enjoy any Prom Party events after the fireworks. anywhere between Meridien and Negresco is good. The crowds will be big. Some people like to view from the beach but get there early for a place.

As I have found to my own cost, all beauty spots in Nice are besieged by large parties of children in the keeping of summer school minders. Everywhere is full of hundreds of kids shouting to each other playing tag. Seems little way of avoiding them.

Nice Jazz Festival ends today. Yesterday saw some of the best concerts - Omer Avital was one of the best jazz ensembles I have ever seen live. Astonishing. The season of summer music festivals is in full swing - check Nice Matin for what is on locally when.
