Hi there,

Am looking for some suggestions on what to do around Nice over X'mas. We will be there a week before X'mas and a week after. Any recommendations will be appreciated!

Rent a car and drive up to the mountain town of Sospel.

Visit Lucéram also to see the 400+ santon crèche exhibits:

We visited the village in December 2010 and found it fascinating.

Go to the town of Mouans-Sartoux (between Mougins and Grasse) to see the santon fair, where figurines by artisans are available for sale so you can start your own collection.

Drive up to Grasse when it's dark to see the light display. Walk around Nice at night to see the amazing lights.

Your suggestions sound really good. Thank you. Is it a relatively easy and short drive to the towns you suggested: Sospel, Luceram and Mouans-Sartoux? Would you recommend a day trip, or to stay over? Just wanting to do something over X'mas, so we are not stuck with being too quiet with nothing to do. Want to take advantage of being there. Thanks.

Both Lucéram and Sospel would involve a fair drive, Mouans-Sartoux perhaps a half hour. On the way you could see the big santons display--assuming it will be up--at old Mougins. Another possibility would be visiting the glassblowing studio just below Biot, along with the nearby International Art Glass museum, our favorite.

Sospel and other train des merveilles route villages and mouans sartoux are easily reached by train. Luceram can be reached by bus but it depends on how much time you wish yo devote to it

You will not be stuck with nothing to do here

Things do not close down the way they do in other countries in Nice

One thing I always do in Nice, and other places in Provence, is load up on metallic Christmas stickers for envelopes--my hobby, along with collecting santons. Stationery stores and tabacs usually have the stickers, and it's fun to look at the greeting cards as well. France is big on New Year's cards, BTW, more so than Christmas.
