Family Trip to London then Paris and then where? In July.

We are taking the kids (10 year old girl and 7 year old boy) to London then Paris and then thought we would do 4 days relaxing somewhere beautiful but with activities nearby for morning excursions. Ideal would be activities (that aren't a huge drive) in the morning and relaxing by some body of water in afternoon (ocean, lakes, pool) in afternoon. Evening would be great food but not glitzy and places we would feel comfortable with our children in. Willing for it to be on the pricey side since this is a splurge! Any suggestions would be so appreciated! thanks.

Dreamingmother.......welcome to the Forum. Recognize that you are new here but there is no need to post 3 times.

You don't want to drive anywhere in the Cote d'Azur in July. Traffic and trying to find a place to park is something you don't want to have to deal with.

Use public transport....trains and buses.

Juan les Pins is a good place for younger kids. Good beaches and ativities for them.

You will rarely find hotel pools on the Cote d'Azur. ESpecially in urban areas.

Sounds like you don't have a lot of familiarity with the area. A guide book is always a good place to start, The Michelin Green Guide to the Cote d'Azur is a good one.

No need to apologize at all!

Juan les Pins has a newer, more modern feel to it and what could described as a "boardwalk" in sections....It's not too traffic crazy and it is flat and easy to get around in. For the more historic Cote d'Azure feel.....Antibes is only 5 minutes away and there is the lovely old cobblestoned "Old Town" that your kids would like.

Another good thing for kids is a boat trip to the nearby island of St Marguerite where the "Man in the Iron Mask" cell is. The island again is flat and ther are some nice walks / hikes that the kids would like. Some nice, very small coves for swimming.

How else can we help you?

knowing very little if close to nothing...have always wanted to go to aix provence. it's quite a distance to do both in 4 or 5 days, correct? if you had to choose between the two areas (keeping in mind that we have limited attention spans with our kids and they aren't the best at "just hanging out" what would you suggest?

Well...it's about 2.5 hours each way on a train from Nice to Aix. So, 5 hours return if you want to do a day trip. Not sure how your kids would deal with it. Only you can say. Not sure where you are from....maybe your kids have never experienced a train.

If you stick to the Cote d'Azur.....you can always entertain them with beach. And you can bus / train to countless different destinations.

With Aix....there is a much shorter list of places to travel to using public transport that they might enjoy.

The beaches of Juan-les-Pins in July cannot be described as "relaxing", same is true for tours by bus to the tourist hotspots.

I would consider the French atlantic coast. Kids will love it.

tminus....

The OP expressed an interest in the Cote d'Azur.....not hundreds of kms away on the Atlantic Coast.

No. He asked for "relaxing somewhere beautiful", especially suitable for children. And from Paris the atlantic coast is much closer and faster to reach than the Cote d'Azur.

Since when has it been wrong to suggest to a poster an alternative that he/she might not have heard of, so might not have considered?

Give me the French Atlantic over the up-itself Cote d'Azur any day.
