It depends on your destination, time of the day, number of passengers/bags and of course, traffic. If you are staying in Carré d'Or, it's between 30 - 35€ during the day. Around Place Garibaldi, 40€.

It is normally just about or under 30 Euro by taxi from the airport to our hotel around the Old Town.

Nice airport taxi prices can vary considerably. An average estimate would be 35 euros, but it all depends on the day and the time of day and the number suitcases and passengers etc. An average rate for a reserved driver is 40 Euros (from 7am to 8pm) or 50 Euros (from 8pm to 7am). The Nice airport website posts the following useful information regarding taxi fares. Due to some problems with overcharging, there is also a recourse for anyone who feels that they have been overcharged as described below:

TAXI RATES 2013 SUPPLEMENTS

- Day rate (7am to 7pm) : € 2.08.

- Night rate (7pm to 7am)

+ Sundays and bank holidays) : € 2.60.

- Pick-up charge : € 3.00.

- Waiting time or slow driving : € 26 / h.

- Minimum fare : € 6.86. - Per suitcase : € 0.78.

- Trunk or big package : € 1.48.

- Animal (excluding guide dog) : € 1.48.

- Airport surcharge : € 1.65.

- Surcharge for 4th passenger : € 1.58.

- Surcharge for snow/ice : 10%.

- Plus motorway toll fees.

If the customer considers that he/she has been overcharged by a taxi driver going out from the Airport, send your complaint to :

Monsieur le Préfet des Alpes-Maritimes

Direction de la Réglementation et des Libertés Publiques

Bureau de la Circulation

06286 Nice Cedex 3

A copy of the receipt, obligatory for any journey costing € 25 or more, should be attached.

Include the taxi number (3 numbers below the word "Taxi" on the roof of the vehicle).

A driver guilty of such an offence may, in addition to possible legal sanctions, have his permit to park at the Airport cancelled.

I booked a transfer from the old town to the airport on the http://intaxis.com/ site. They arrange airport transfers in cities all over the world - just key in your details and they provide a quote. They charged 24euro, payable via paypal. The driver turned up on time, in people carrier, and there were no problems. I had a few queries and had several email contacts with the customer service person who was very helpful. They provided a local telephone number, plus emergency french and UK numbers.

Taxis are very reliable in Nice and overcharging is not a big issue. However , often people do not understand how the taxis in France are organised and regulated. Of course there is a procedure for people who feel they have been overcharged, there is such a procedure everywhere. This is not unique to Nice, neither are the legally regulated and set fares as listed in post 4; Every department in France has a similar list of rates and extras which are set by the authorities, not the taxi companies.

The main areas of confusion for tourists anywhere in France is that extras are added on arrival at destination for such things as baggage, pick up from airport station or port, 4th person etc. Additional confusion arises if they phone a taxi , since the taxi will arrive with a fare already on the meter which starts when the fare is accepted by the driver, and in rural areas and times when there are few taxis, this can be a substantial amount:

This is how taxis are legally obliged to operate.

Shuttle services and middle men car bookers (they can not send actual taxis) are often unreliable or work great initially then scarper with the booking fees. Also it is not unknown for companies which are really undercutting to have issues with uninsured unregulated cars and issues with on the ground customer service.
