Is there any benefit to staying in Villefranche-sur-Mer over Nice?

Should have looked at your other posts before responding.

I am assuming that it will be in late July / early August.

Villefranche is a stunningly beautiful little village and is highly recommended.

But at this late date trying to find something decent there willl probably be a challenge.

Best to look in Nice.

Hotel and residential accommodation is far more limited in Villefranche. But of course they are only 5 minutes apart by train.

Ignore post #2. There is still good hotel accommodation in Villefranche-sur-Mer for the last week of July and first week of August. But don't leave it too long.

I'm not sure you can ignore any helpful posts. August is a very busy month. Some of us book 12 months ahead for popular rentals. I have stayed in Nice near Mt Boron for 4 weeks, closer to Villefranche-sur-Mer than Nice, and loved it. I had to park my car in the street but when I drove to VSM the parking was almost impossible. So we need a little more info from you. What month? How long? Hotel? Rental? Hire car? Etc

I will be travelling without a car. Does that make much of a difference?

Not for traveling along the coast. Parking is a real nightmare anywhere along the coast. Being here almost 20 years I only use the car if possible going to the supermarket. Buses are subsidised at 1.5 euro even to go to Menton, trains run commuter -style every 20 to 30 minutes. What's not to like?

If you want to travel into the back country and visit unspoiled hill villages hire a car for a few days.

I would stay in villefranche - nice beach, restaurants right on the water, not as crowded as Nice great views over the gay to cap Ferrat, Nice very accessible by train or bus, train station to get around to other places if desired, no need for car, and in my experience just a more relaxing place
