Sure you can do it in 3 hours but even though I love Provence why spend 6 hours on a train when there is so much to see in Paris?

Why go to Marseille if there's nothing special you want to see there?

If you want the experience of a long distance trip on a TGV combined with a spot of tourism, there are nearer and cheaper options like Lyon,

Dijon or Strasbourg. Or even very near, like Reims or Tours.

If you have a dream as I did of having Bouillabaisse in Marseilles then do it (although we only got the train from Avignon, not quite as far), but you could be there for lunch and back in Paris for dinner. Sitting on the TGV is a wonderful experience, watching the countryside go by.

Go to L'Epuisette, its fantasic, not a tourist trap, but an up market restaurant. Really special!!

Lyon is one of France's largest cities and is known as the capital of gastronomy. There's much to see; have a look at a guidebook and you'll see what I mean.
