Arriving Marseilles, need to get to Nice- train at airport?

Hello, If we are arriving (July) in to Marseille at 5:30pm and going to Nice, what is the best way to go? Train or bus or is there a ferry? Given the time I am a bit concerned about going from airport to Charles station in Marseille- are there trains or buses direct from the airport to Nice?

If we must get from airport to train station, what is the best way and how far? (i.e. will it be dark when we get to the station...?)

Or if there are any other suggestions I appreciate it!

Merci Bien!

Take the shuttle bus from the airport to the train station and train to Nice.

Thanks (I'm just a worrying mother..)

Can you explain the advantage of going up to Aix and taking train from there vs. shuttle to Marseille train station please?

thank you!

It's all down to the timetable. Book your train asap on www.voyages-sncf.com checking out the 2 stations : Aix-en-Provence TGV & Marseille Saint Charles. Do not give your address as the USA or you will be redirected to RailEurope who have an irritating tradition of overcharging and not listing all the trains. Do not allow less than 3 hours between your plane & train.

thanks all, They will not have much chance to buy tickets online before they arrive so will have to hope they can buy tickets on the spot.

I'm sure they will be fine ...

If not booking in adance, it would definately be better to go to Marseille St Charles where it will be possible to ctch a train , other than a TGV, for which reservations are not needed. As they all use the same track there is often not a lot of travel time difference.
