Chateau Neuf De Pape

We are stopping at Marseille early August and contemplating a trip to Chateau Neuf De Pape to sample some of their wonderful wines.

Is it possible to hire a driver from Marseille and is it practical given the distance and the fact that we only have 1 day.

Also if anyone has some recommendations of wineries etc it would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks all.

Taking a taxi from Marseille to Chateauneuf is going to cost you an arm and a leg - taxis in this part of rural France are very, very expensive. Better hire a car for a day - the drive is approx. 1 hr 15 min (mostly straightforward on the motorway) and the wineries are all pretty good in Chateauneuf.

It is a bit over 100 km from Marseille to Chateauneuf-du-Pape, so a return journey by taxi would cost at least €200 plus the cost of waiting time.

You will find wines from the area in wine shops and supermarkets throughout France.

there are also several wine tours offered that leave from Marseille -- they don't go to Chateauneuf, but they do visit well-known wine regions near Marseille.

Check out Châteauneuf de Gadagne

"The growing of vines at Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne dates back to 500 AD. Sales of Gadagne wines have been recorded since the 15th century."
