Aix-les-Bains and Annecy (day trip)

I'm going to stay eight days in this zone and I'd like doing some day trip by foot or by public transport. What do you suggest?

Thanks for your answer.

I cannot comment on Aix-Les-Bains ,but Annecy is a wonderfull place to visit.

When holidaying in Bourg-Saint-Maurice (around 1 hr 20mins away car) i always make the point of going to Annecy for the day.

The town of Annecy has a modern part and also around the river taking water from the lake inland an old part that looks as if it has come stright out of an old Dickens novel.

The modern part has all the usual shops you would find in any town, shops, banks, boutiques, clothes shops etc..hile the old part has more traditional shops, restaurants etc.In the middle of the river in the old part is an old jail that i have read somewhere is the third most photograpged building in france (however true this is?).

You can also take a trip round the lake on a cruiser to sightsee, there is also a cruiser that is a floating restaurant and can be booked to take you round the lake while having you're evening meal.

The only reservation of a trip to Annecy i would have is to avoid it when the market is on,in popular holiday periods,as i was there the week before last on a sunday and the market in the old part was so rammed with people in the narrow streets that it was impossible to move (no exageration) and as i was with my sister, her husband and two small children, the issue of losing one of the children in the crowd was a worry (imagine being on a crowded football terrace with everyone wanting to go in different directions).

By all means visit on market day but only out of peak holiday times would be my advice.

I hope this has wetted you're appetite and hope you have a lovely time wherever you chose to go.
