Getting from Grenoble to Annecy

Hi,

I'm trying to get from Grenoble to Annecy by train or bus in July. I've seen previous posts saying that there's a direct train from Grenoble to Annecy, but when I search on the TGV timetable only a service Grenoble - Lyon - Annecy is shown (which takes 3.5hrs). Can anybody help with more information on direct trains? Or alternatively, how do I go about booking a bus from Grenoble to Annecy, and how long does the bus take.

I'm travelling with a young baby so am looking for the easiest travel option!

Many thanks for your help.

There is no direct link between the two by train. What site are you looking at for timetables? On www.voyages-sncf.com using a random weekday in July I see plenty of routings via Chambéry, most by bus to Chambéry and then local train to Annecy, a few by bus all the way. Travel times vary between 2 and ~2.5 hours with fares starting at around €15 for a few timings but generally €18 one way.

Except for a few timings that use a TGV for part of the journey there is really no need to pre-book this trip.

The through trains will be local ones - TER trains, which can't be reserved.

The summer timetable is here:

They appear to be rebuildind the line, hence lots of replacement bus services.
