Hotel accommodation and places of interest

Does anyone have a good place to stay in Lyon? We are two Australian women in late sixties who will subsequently be going on a walking tour in Massif Central:St Bonnet. We think that one or two night stay in Lyon might be interesting. Are there any places of interest which should not be missed (we will not have a car).

We stayed at the novotel Part-Dieu last year, nice hotel adjecent to the main railway station (part-dieu) with all public transport facilities available. We went to see the Place Bellecour and it's surroundings, which are mainly shopping streets, and we went up the hill (by public transport again) to see the Cathedral, and the very nice view over the city

when in Lyon, visit the old Lyon and the Rhone shores ... hotels, you have the Sofitel, go to www.accor.fr, you can book in advance with preferential prices, they also have others hòtels like Ibis, but very basic comfort. If you wish to stay in the Old Lyon, 3 suggestions :

www.college-hotel.com $$$

www.courdesloges.com $$$$

www.villaflorentine.com $$$$$

You don't need any car to visit Lyon, you'll be able to walk everywhere and public transport is good (métro, bus, tramway and also a bike rental system that is now copied by Paris).

As far as hotels are concerned : please tell us a little more about your price range, it will be easier to make appropriate recommendations.

There are a lot of places of interest, in Lyon; the whole city center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will find a city with 2 rivers and 2 hills, roman theaters, a beautiful renaissance district, painted walls, beautiful parks, interesting pieces of modern architecture,....

I suggest that you start with a little personnal work : browse this website, see what you like and come back to TA for more advices :
