Koln or Dusseldorf before flight home?

At the end of our German trip we will spend a few days in Munich and then take the train for our flight home. What are the pros and cons of a stay in Koln vs. Dusseldorf? We will have a teenage boy with us who isn't wild about museums, etc It looks like either city has easy access to the airport.

Both cities are nice. I would tend to go to Cologne, as it is a bit more "iconic". Cologne has its impressive cathedral, a world heritage site and Germany's most visited landmark. Düsseldorf has nothing as popular as this. Also, Cologne is a bit larger and more vibrant in my mind. Düsseldorf is more interesting for older and luxury inclined people. But please take my opinion as what it is: a bit biased ;-)

I'd also vote for Cologne in an instant. Düsseldorf is IMHO highly overrated.

Which airport are you using?

We are flying out of Dusseldorf back to US. Our flight is as 12noon so I'm thinking if we take an 8am train from Koln right to the Dusseldorf airport we should be fine (please comment if that is not the case!)
