Living in Berlin, on a budget, and wanting to travel!

I am situated in Berlin and really want to spend the spring travelling Europe. Maybe I am not looking in the right spots, but the inter europe flights and trains are not as cheap as I had heard (and hoped!).

Can someone recommend airlines/trains/rideshares and nice destinations? Not so into the big cities (though i would still like to see some) as much as getting out into nature. I just want to see as much as I can.

Thank you!

The cheapest train fares open 92 days in advance of travel www.bahn.de

For car sharing try www.mitfahrgelegenheit.de

For airlines try www.easyjet.com

to find budget flights

for bus connections

.

Most ways of budget travel require however booking well in advance. Here some ideas which work on spot.

a) using regional trains

VBB day tickets

http://www.vbb.de/en/index.html

Berlin-Stettin-Ticket (EUR 10 one way)

overview of regional offers by DB

b) BahnCard - a yearly discount card which gives you discounts on the standard fare prices. But this always, i.e. also at peak travel times. If you cannot avoid travelling on peak travel times a good idea. BahnCard 25 gives also discount on savings fares. Which may pay for as you stay longer. BahnCard gives also discounts on many trips by train to/from abroad from/to Germany.

c) in summer during school vacations (= low peak time!) DB offered in the last years always a 1-month rail pass for Germany

I just used flightfox recently and didnt rate it berlinorbust.com/getting-there-flightfox-rev…

I hear skyscanner is pretty good as it give you the option to go to airports close to the actual one you selected.
