River Cruise in December

Is it insane to take a Rhine or Danube River Cruise in December? Has anyone done this and would you recommend it?

Would you take a December river cruise on the Ohio river? As an alternative, check out the cruise schedule on the Duoro in Portugal. I am not sure if the cuises run in .Decemberf, but at least from the consideration of climate, they would make more sense.

Cruise the Rhine River by train. They trains are warm and have big windows that provide a nice view. Since the trains run all day long on both sides of the river and stick to the river almost the entire way, you can do a daytrip up one side and down the other, taking in the castles and villages, stopping off as you wish for an hour or two and hopping back on. The Rheinland-Pfalz ticket daypass makes this a cheap daytrip:

I think the OP is talking about a longer cruise along the Rhine or Danube, not a one day ship ride.

Christmas market cruises are very popular during Dec. along the Rhine, so I imagine along the Danube as well. See which towns and cities they visit, and if those are the cities you also want to visit, then that is the cruise for you. Read the reviews for the different cruises and companies offering them, over on Cruise Critic.
