Late November/To get in the Christmas mood

Trying to nail down a plan for this years vacation.

We are thinking of landing in Cologne(arriving the 24th). Spending 2 nights there, take in a museum and just stroll around to take in the ambiance.

Then on to Colmar for 2 nights. Again for the markets and stroll the town.

Next Basel for a night. Going to try to get there early in the day. But also leaving early the next day to Florence for 6 nights.

We trying to get a variety of different markets and towns. Every time I come to Tripadvisor and look at a new town it gets more confusing. Of course we would like to see them all but we do have a budget.

We know that we are bouncing around a little bit but we don't mind.

Is this a good plan or is there a substitute you would recommend?

Please compare Strasbourg and Colmar online or in a guidebook and make sure that you are making the right choice for you. Your plan will work, and if you like it, why not? Since that is a lot of nights in Florence, you might consider adding Pisa and Lucca on a day tour from Florence (inquire at your hotel), or take the train to Sienna for a day trip.

Strasbourg is awesome ( for me ) compared to Colmar...have been to both markets.

You may also want to consider Freiburg ( Germany) Market which is not very far from Strasbourg.& skip Basel.

Definately get to Sienna & Pisa & if you have enough time visit San Gimignano for sure.

Thanks for your responses. Will do more research. We have been to Florence and the region a few times (my favorite is Siena at night). We love Italy but were trying to include the above areas to see other picturesque towns and some Christmas markets.

I'd rather skip Cologne, which is far out of the rest of your route, and rather combine Strasbourg/Colmar with Freiburg and Baden-Baden on the German side and Basel on the Swiss side in order to save travel time. However, recheck the opening dates of the resperctive Christmas markets. They will all start during that week but maybe not already on Monday.
