The Black Forest is a mountain range that covers a large area in SW Germany ( www.schwarzwald-tourismus.info can be changed to English). There are several larger cities close to but outside of it, and many towns within it. Have a look at that website and select where you want to visit. Then use www.bahn.com to see what your public transportation options are. It is not near Munich and outside of day trip distance.

Hi there,

I have checked the website given by you but the info there is very vague. As I understand, black forest is a region and that has got many villages/city. I am more interested to visit the place where Cuckoo clocks are manufactured. Thus could you assist me on how to reach that place from the city (Munich, Frankfurt, Berlin, Cologne etc etc) which is closer so that I can proceed to book the tickets.

How much time will you have? The Black Forest is not within day trip distance from Munich and also a bit far from Frankfurt, you'd better plan one or two overnights.

Cuckoo clocks are made at several places in the Black Forest. Most important center is probably Triberg.

Personally I think Gengenbach is nicer and better suited as base (Triberg is not that close to its train station). Gengenbach is just a few train stops before Triberg.

Between Gengenbach and Triberg there is also the interesting Black Forest Open Air Museum Vogtsbauernhof.

Closest from the cities you listed is Frankfurt. You can check connections using the DB timetable.

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

Start: Frankfurt(Main)Hbf

Start: Frankfurt(M)Flughafen (in case you start at Frankfurt Airport)

Destination: Gengenbach

Destination: Triberg

You can travel between Gengenbach, Vogtsbauernhof and Triberg for free on the KONUS guest card you'll get automatically when staying there.

So I understand that I should set my base at Gengenbach and from there I should travel to Triberg and nearby areas for Cuckoo clocks and black forest pasteries.
