train from airport to HIlton Munich City Hotel

The transit directions from the Munich Airport to the Hilton Munich City Hotel show taking the S8 train to Munchen Ost and then the SP2 train from Munchen Ost to the Rosenheimerplatz station. However, I cannot find the SP2 train on any of the Munich transit system maps. Is there an actual physical transfer from the S8 train to an SP2 train at the Munchen Ost station or does one just stay on the S8 train to Rosenheimerplatz station?

What's an SP2 train?

Actually, both the S1 and the S8 are supposed to go to Rosenheimer Platz. (One S-Bahn enters Munich from the West, the other one from the East). However, there is some construction work in central Munich, and your connection might be affected by this. It depends on when you're planning to travel.

However, don't worry - if this happens, everyone will leave the S-Bahn and transfer to a waiting bus, probably labeled "Schienenersatzverkehr" or possibly "SB2" if this is what the website gives you. The bus will then stop at the same stations as the S-Bahn would have. It's a little annoying, but there's nothing there can be done about it.

Depends when you travel. Due works at Donnersbegerbrücke station there will be till end of June on weekdays during the night (days marked red) and all day on weekdays (marked green) only a 20 min shuttle S-Bahn service between Ostbahnhof and Pasing.

and here a network map with the changes during this time.

The shuttle S-Bahn service is shown as black line. Albeit not used here "SP" could stand for S-Bahn Pendelverkehr (shuttle service).

Thus during these times you'll have indeed to have change trains to get to Rosenheimer Platz. Normally it is directly served from the airport by both S-Bahn lines S1 and S8.

Thank you so much. Construction work explains it all. In fact, when I just checked the S-Bahn itinerary again, it showed current direct service by the S8 train all the way from the airport to the Rosenheimerplatz station..

This is very helpful. We are traveling in September. What does the train cost? Would you advise purchasing in advance?

I do not recall price. It was much cheaper than taxi. We bought a ticket at a counter in the airport and were able to ask a real person questions. It was all so easy.
