advice for trip needed.

Hi I apologise now for my ignorance, dont know much about this region. We are planning on going to the black forest in August. (my parents and I) We like nice weather and like to get a colour. Would that happen in the black forest or is it very shaded from the trees.

Could you recommend the best town for us (My parents are 60 and Im 25) We like walking a lot and I like a bit of adventure/fun things to do. Would also appreciate suggestions for a few nice day trips.

Sorry for all the questions hope you can help.

Ruthie.

Depends where. The higher peaks have no or only few trees on their tops.

Temperatures depend also on the altitude. E.g. Baden-Baden stretches from 112m above sea level up to 1.003 m.

Do you want to use public transport or will you have a car?

Like the whole of Central Europe, the Black Forest can give no guarantee on sunny weather, neither in August nor any other month of the year.

Thanks for replies. We would probably be using public transport, will this be a problem.

Baden-Baden

Famous spa town. Famous casino. 2nd biggest Festspielhaus (Festival Opera House) in Europe.

Freiburg

Lively and lovely university city. The secret capital city of the Black Forest.

It has however an advantage to stay in one of the smaller places in the Black Forest. You'll get there a guest card (called KONUS) which gives you free local public transport for the whole area.

We were in Baden Baden mid June and had glorious weather.Everywhere is geared towards outdoor life and lots of walks mapped. You can buy a day ticket for the region and travel anywhere for the day. This ticket is 28€ and up to 5 people can travel on it. We went from Baden Baden to Lake Constance (about 3 hrs) The scenery was beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed the day.
