Sons 8th Birthday in Stuttgart

Hi All'

We are travelling to Stuttgart from Australia in December (10-13th) and my boy turns 8 on the 12th. Would really like to do something special for him and was wondering if anyone had any ideas. Already planning to spend some time at the markets etc. but would love some ideas for something memorable for him. Any help would be great.

Thank you

Visits to both the Mercedes Benz Museum ( mercedes-benz-classic.com/content/classic/mp… ) and Museum am Loewentor ( http://www.naturkundemuseum-bw.de/ only in German and …wikipedia.org/wiki/State_Museum_of_Natural_… ) with its excellent local fossils of dinosaurs and Ice Age mammals are great. It still may be possible to ride an elephant at the zoo ( www.wilhelma.de ) for an hour or so if they still do this, but quite expensive. The Württemberg Museum in the Old Palace has a special floor for children.

There are two local programs that it might be possible for him to participate in. Children can dress in period costumes at Germany's largest perfectly-preserved palace in Ludwigsburg (in www.schloesser-und-gaerten.de ). At the chocolate museum of Ritter (manufacturer of SPORT candy bars) in Waldenbuch they have a program for children to create their own candy bar which is extremely popular and therefore probably difficult to get into ( www.museum-ritter.de/sprache2/n437378/n.html ).

Of course there's the Christmas Market with its ice skating rink and there is an area on Karlsplatz that is a Finnish Christmas Market where they cook salmon on wooden planks in front of a wood fire and you can eat it in a large tepee with a fire inside and sit on reindeer hides.

The toy store on the NW corner of the Marktplatz by the Rathaus, Speileware Kurz, is one of Germany's largest toy stores.

There is a children's play area at one of the mineral baths, Das Leuze ( www.stuttgart.de/baeder/leuzemineralbad only in German).

The Christmas Market in Esslingen ( www.esslingen.de ) is part medieval and has many games and activities your son might enjoy. It's particularly atmospheric when lit-up by torches in the evening.

The world's largest Christmas Circus will be on with acts from throughout the world- www.weltweihnachtscircus.de .

For other ideas of things to see and do in the area, have a look at what I wrote in #1 of tripadvisor.com/…49932873 .

Thank you very much for your insight to the area. I shall start looking into some of your suggestions.

Just want to make it a special day and not get lost in the general holiday (despite that being very exciting itself)

Cheers

http://www.sensapolis.de/en/about-the-park - This kids park hosts birthday parties. They have rock climbing, e-karts, virtual spaceship-type rides, slides, pirate ship, etc.. Located close to Stuttgart in Sindelfingen. Good luck and have FUN!

My son had his 7th birthday at the Waldenbuch Ritter Sport chocolate factory; you can reserve a spot in advance and some of the groups can be conducted in English if you prefer. We reserved 10 spaces and the kids had a great time; they get several chocolate bars to take home (the ones that they make).

Both my kids attended birthday parties at Sensapolis --- it's a great place for that age.
