Crazy Ludwigs castle

My dad has always wanted to see this. He is not in good health and i want to take him and my mom here before he is unable to go. What do you recommend as a tour that is not too physical and what else should we see?

thanks so much for your help :)

You should be aware that during the tour of the inside of Neuschwanstein you go 165 steps upstairs and 181 steps downstairs. The English-language web site for booking the tours (https://www.hohenschwangau.de/765.0.html) states that "For wheelchair users and visitors with wheel rallators and walkers it's possible to attend a regular guided tour. Therefore, a fee required reservation is necessary. The amount of the fee can be taken from the price overview." If this describes your father, then you'll need to base your visit on exactly when these special tours are given.

Actually the view from outside is in my view the best bit. When there's no scaffolding. So maybe you don't need a tour, depending on where you stay and what else you want to do. Consider just renting a car?

Neuschwanstein is not that easy to access. The best option is to take up the horse carriages and walk from their end point to the castle.

.

Also in this area is another one of Ludwig II's palaces: Linderhof

Interior was completed and is nicer anyway. And access is easier.

The Wies Church is another highlight.

.

My suggestion is also to use a rental car. Than you can determine your own pace. Tours have schedules and this means easily stress for your parents. Base yourself in the area (Füssen, Schwangau, Ettal).

There are lot's of things to do and see in this area. There are passenger boats on lake Forggensee. Cable car on the Tegelberg. Nice views and with 1881 m not an altitude which may cause problems.

Also consider seeing the palace on Lake Chiemsee. King Ludwig built it to look like Versailles, complete with a magnificent Hall of Mirrors that seems to go on forever. It's on an island in the lake, and you get there by ferry and then can take a carriage ride to the palace. One place to catch the ferry is Prien. This is a gorgeous place, with views of the Alps from the lake itself, and almost no stairs.
