Hi Sgreentea,

Probably the best place for mountains & lake would the Eibsee, just at the foot of the Zugspitze. I normally recommend that folks see the Eibsee after seeing the Zugspitze -- you just come down the cable car, and you are at the Eibsee. It takes about 90 minutes to walk around the lake, and it's nice also to have some coffee & cake in the restaurant by the lake. You can get to the Eibsee by the Eibsee bus from Garmisch, which runs about 1x / hour and takes about 30 minutes.

Other options are the Riessersee, in the hills just above Garmisch. No bus runs close to it, but you can walk there in about 15 or 20 minutes from Garmisch. The third option is the Pflegersee, which sits just off the Kramerplateauweg on the edge of town. It's part of a nice hike up to the Werdenfels ruins.

In Mittenwald, there are two nice lakes just outside of town, both part of very nice hikes -- Lautersee and Ferchensee.

Two of the nicest restaurants in town for Bavarian cuisine are the Zum Wildschütz and the Mohrenplatz, both right on the pedestrian walkway in Garmisch.

Have fun as you plan!
