Just returned from weekend with 2 girlfriends in Munich had a fantastic time.
We stayed at the Mercure Altstadt - great hotel - great location - comfortable rooms (we were grateful for the air con as the weather was very hot!) and friendly staff. Book early to get best rates. Breakfast although 13 euros is worth a treat! Smoked salmon, cheeses, pastries, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, freshly squeezed orange juice - worth every penny! Although breakfast in the Vikualienmarkt is a must!
As we are keen wine drinkers we visited the Pfälzer Weinstube - we tried 3 different wines which were all reasonably priced and ate Flamakuchen (very thin pizza topped with onions, bacon and sour cream) which was delicious and good value at 7 euros 30. As the sun shone we sat outside. Waiters were very friendly and spoke good English.
We had a meal and drinks at Ayingers Speis und Trank, Am Platzl 1A opposite the Hofbrauhaus, it was great sitting on the cobbled street looking at everybody passing by. Beer food and wine were all great and fairly well priced for its location. Had a great Schnitzel but to be honest all the food smelt delicious.
Also ate at Riva Pizza Restaurant, 44 Tal near the EnglischerGarten - delicious pizzas, nice outdoor terrace to sit at with small water feature.
Had lunch in the Hofbrauhaus - very touristy but good service and the ompah band was a nice touch!
We also stopped for cocktails at the Bayerischerhof Hotel, Promenadeplatz on 7th floor terrace - had great views of the city.
Had drinks and snacks at the Englischergarten by the lake - if the sun is shining its a must!
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Munich and cant wait to return.
