Thanks abalada. The return train trip for two adults from Memmingen to Munich (day trip) is coming in at close to €100, unless I am reading the information incorrectly. This is much too expensive. Do you know if there is a cheaper option because at that rate it would be cheaper to bypass Memmingen airport and fly direct to Munich airport?
What's a Bavaria ticket? Not a local so I don't know?
Bavaria Ticket is a day ticket covering all regional trains and nearly all other local public transport (e.g. the U-Bahn, trams and buses in Munich) in Bavaria. EUR 28,00 for 2-5 persons traveling together. Validity
Mo-Fr: from 9am till 3am next day
Sa,Su: from midnight till 3am next day
Select at the DB timetable as means of transport "only local transport" if you like to use the Bavaria Ticket.
I'm not sure if you can buy the Bavaria Ticket at Memmingen Airport or from the bus driver there. Thus the bus Memmingen Airport to Memmingen station may come extra.
Memmingen is a nice Bavarian town.

The train from Memmingen to Munich will end at "München Hbf" - the main railway station. You can walk from there into the old city centre. Or change to the S-Bahn for 2 stops to "München Marienplatz". This is the most central place of Munich with the city hall.
The hotels are cheaper at weekends as they live in first place from business travelers, not from tourists.
Shops are closed on Sundays. Museums, attractions, beer gardens etc. are open on Sundays.
> Would the trains between Munich and Memmingen operate on a Sunday?
The timetable I linked in my first reply will give you the answer.
