Oktoberfest 2010 booking

Wanting some advice on booking budget accommodation for Oktoberfest 2010...

Lots of sites say "book well in Advance" - does that mean you can book now (1 yr ahead)? pls specify

What is recommended? - just to book a hotel/hostel or to book as a package (accomodation, passes, discount vouchers, all you can drink etc etc)

We are a young couple. Any recommendation would be great. Hoping not to spend over 70Euro p night on accomodation

you can't get a package unless you buy it form the agency, but they pretty much overcharge you and that really not worth it - you can do everything yourself.

You also don't need so called vouchers (gutschein in German) as you won't get any discount on it and they normally valid in specific tent (in some places in the city as well but that's different story). Vouchers normally supplied with table reservation but you don't need it either as the reservations are only for he whole table (6-10 person depends on tent).

So what you need is only hotel/hostel (normally not earlier than one year). You know the addresses - booking.com, hostelworld.com etc. Just try to avoid weekends as the busiest period and don't change seats after 5 pm at weekdays. It's only 2 of you, so you'll be able to find seats, no problem, in any normal time.

Relax and have fun!

We booked our 2010 hotel this weekend.

Haven't bothered with plane tickets or any other sorts of plans yet, will worry about that in the coming 12 months, but the hotel is booked and we are ready for the first weekend of Oktoberfest!

I went to Oktoberfest last year, 2008, and I began looking for a hotel in Nov. 2007, and many hotels were already full. Don't wait, book very early!

Akirilenko is right about packages and vouchers. If there are only two of you, you won't have too much trouble getting into a tent, especially during the week. The easiest time is around lunch time, or just prior thereto.

All the hotels raise their rates during O'fest, so you may have a tough time finding an accommodation for 70E per night. I have never stayed in a hostel, but I have heard some good things about some of them. Try using the Trip Advisor reviews and the search feature.

Good luck!

Try

Booking.com

They seem to have quite a few on their site. We've just booked for 2010 and already a lot of decent rooms have already been taken so i'd recommend booking something asap.

If you are willing to send an E-MAIL there are probably more than a few hotels that are willing to book accommodation for you right now for next year.

The firat time we ever attended we actually ended up in a hotel in Augsburg which worked well for us since we were interested in more than the usual Oktoberfest stuff..but even then we could have found some space IN Munich itself if we had wanted it and we had waited until a few months prior..

But i agree that if you KNOW the area or the hotel you want, the time to book is now..as to "budget

accommodation"...I suspect a lot of them will raise their prices for that period.

How far is Augsburg from Oktoberfest? Did it take long to travel back and forth?

An hour train ride isn't far? I am looking for something a little closer. Is there any cities that are about 15-30 minutes away that might be cheaper? I think I might just suck it up and pay a premium for a hotel near the festivities for two days. We plan on going to Switzerland and Austria too. Anything you suggest?

I would suggest going to www.spg.com... Try the Munich Four Points Sheraton.. Easy walking distance (2 blocks) from the fest, and very nice.
