Do most of the major hotels provide travel adapters or should I purchase one to bring?

Go to your AAA Travel Store- you can get adapters for only $2.95 each. They are very small- just plug into the German outlet and then plug in your appliance.

Radio Shack has a good array of addapters too. Make sure that any items you are planning to use are dual-voltage - it will say on the back. Otherwise you'll also need a transformer to convert the local voltage/frequency to the US standard.

One note - be careful with anything with a heating element - hair dryer, curling iron, etc.

Radio Shack has a great adapter plug that accomodates U.S grounded plugs very well. It's a bit pricey at $10 but works great and you can always find a Radio Shack at home. If you don't have one, there are often airport stores overseas or at U.S. gateway airports that will help you at a higher cost.
