I would skip Dachau with 11 and 14 year olds. It's a somber and sobering experience. My kids love the alpine coaster and even the salt mine can be a lot of fun. If you want to have fun, do the alpine coaster.

I recommend the salt mine and alpine coaster combination. The children should enjoy those the most.

Thanks a lot. Which alpine coaster should we take? Is there one which is a short diversion on the salzburg Munich route?

Thanks

We did the sommerrodelbahn at Steckenberg and enjoyed it. There are some other activities there for children as well.

We saw Schloss LInderhof first, then did the sommerrodelbahn. It was a great day!

The salt mine we visited and enjoyed was the one in Hallein.

Did you seriously just compare Dachau with fun activities?

Some people seem not to understand what happened in Dachau, Sachsenhausen, Buchenwald etc.

Just another tourist attraction - sometimes I feel like vomitting!

Agree with the above. The Salt Mine is really interesting and the Summer Rodelbahn is a really fun and unique thing to do. Dachau is also very worthwhile, but a very somber experience so it really depends on what you are looking for, but given the ages of your kids perhaps the fun activities are a better choice.

I took my kids to Dachau when they were 16 and 19. They are both very interested in history especially nWorld War ll history. It is not a fun visit but a learning experience that we hope will never be forgotten. The alpine coaster were fun, the salt mines were very interesting and fun with the slides, train and boat ride. I like the salt mine in Hallstatt better than the one in Berchestgarden. And was guided in English.
