Best way from Munich, Germany to Prague, Czech Rep. 4 pax.

Czech Rail shows 3hrs 37 min from Prague to Munich, but they don't travel in the other direction, i.e. Munich to Prague and there I see only 6+ hrs.???

The fastest way is to take a DBahn Bus, I took it from Nuremburg a few months ago and the ride was actually very good and it is the fastest way to Prague, and back. The Czech rail system is still trying to get up to speed, not there yet.

There is nothing that takes 3 hours 37 minutes. As above, the quickest and most comfortable way is the bus www.bahn.com from €29

There are also four daily trains in both directions which cost from €19 www.cd.cz/shop in advance.

The direct buses will need approx. 4:40, the direct trains approx. 5:45.

Bus is from EUR 29 per person if you buy (well) in advance.

Train is cheap if you use 2 tickets to cover this trip.

1. Bayern-Böhmen Ticket (Bavaria-Bohemia Ticket) for 4 persons which is EUR 38,50

This ticket covers the trip as far as Plzen/Pilsen. You can buy it from the ticket machines on spot. Or for EUR 2 more also at the counters. This day ticket is valid on Sa or Su or public holidays all day. On weekdays only past 9am. Leaves you with 3 direct trains on weekdays departing 09:01, 12:44 and 17:02.

This ticket covers furthermore also all local public transport in Munich (inside its validity time span).

2. point-to-point ticket from Plzen/Pilsen to Praha/Prague for 4 persons which is CZK 400 (~ EUR 14,55)

You can buy this ticket online

https://www.cd.cz/eshop/search_2G.aspx (click on "en" for English)

or for a small surcharge also from the Czech conductor on board of the train.

Thus in total ~ EUR 53 for all 4 of you together. Approx. EUR 13,25 per person. And this without the need of buying tickets well in advance.

It is usually a good idea to book your rail travel from the national carrier of your departure city. So for Munich to Prague you would book with bahn.de and not with Czech railways.

A quick look at a random date next week shows several connections per day, with the German Rail run bus taking around 4.5 hours for the trip, and the train taking over an hour longer. On this route, not only is the bus faster, it's also a lot more comfortable.

In this case if you want a €19 train ticket you have to buy from Czech Railways. If you buy from DB it will cost about €64.

It is similar Berlin to Prague - from €29 from Czech Railways, or from €39 from DB.
