We will be staying in Holiday Inn Munich South. How do we get to the:

1. hop-on hop-off bus?

2. Hard Rock Cafe in Marienplatz?

2. tour bus to the Neuschwanstein and Linderhof castles?

3. Munich airport?

Thank you.

1) and 3) both are leaving at Bahnhofsplatz by Karstadt; you take U3 from Machtlfinger Str. (towards Moosach) to Sendlinger Tor and switch here to U1/U2/U7/U8 towards Hauptbahnhof and exit at Hauptbahnhof. The ride takes 16 min.

2) take U3 from Machtlfinger Str. (towards Moosach) to Marienplatz. The ride takes 14 min and runs in 10 minutes intervals

4) take U3 from Machtlfinger Str. (towards Moosach) to Marienplatz, switch to S8 towards the Airport. The ride takes about 1 hr.

Thank you, Jordansbulls for the subway map. From the Holiday Inn Munich South, do we take the bus, taxi or the train to the main station? How long does it take? The tour bus to the castles leave at 8:30, so we need to know what time we should leave the hotel to go to the pick-up point at KARSTADT Department Store. Thank you for your help.

Thank you, A_VisitMyBavaria for the transportation system map. What kind of fare tickets to we buy? There are two of us, and we will go to the Marianplatz on two afternoons, on the first and last days of our tour. Where do we find the hop-on, hop-off bus? Thank you.

As I mentioned in my earlier post you find the hop-on hop-off bus at Bahnhofsplatz next to Karstadt.

For the fare: The easiest and most convenient ticket would be to buy a partner day pass (Partner-Tageskarte Innenraum) . This ticket is valid all day and night to the next morning at 6 am and you can use it anywhere in the inner district of Munich. If you want to use public transportation on 3 days, maybe you want to consider the 3 day pass. The price for a partner 1 day pass is € 11.20, for a 3 day partner pass € 25.90, for a partner day pass to the airport and anywhere in and around Munich € 21.30 .

You can find all of this also on the website that I linked in my earlier post, including the map for the inner district.

When you get to Munich you may want to pick up a tariff map and carry it with you to be able to see where you can and cannot go with the type of ticket you have purchased.

To find your public transport connection, enter your point of departure and your destination at www.mvv-muenchen.de and the website will calculate the best connection for you.

And when returning to the airport, you don't have to take the S8, it can also be the S1. They depart from different tracks, though, since they are going into opposite directions, so you'd have to find out when the next one leaves before going to the track. If you find this complicated, just stick with the S8.

On the days you need to go to the airport, buy a day ticket for the entire MVV area if you're planning to use the subway system to go anywhere else that day, and buy single tickets if you're not. (The difference in price is small, but still, there's no need to pay for a day ticket when all you want to do on that day is go to the airport.) There is a partner-day-ticket which is a little cheaper than two individual day tickets.
