Mobility scooter

I am bringing my elderly father to Munich in September and I wonder can someone advise me if it is worth hiring a mobility scooter. Dad is anxious to do some tours but I am not sure he will be able to walk fast enough!! Where could I hire a scooter for 3 days? Is it possible to bring a scooter on trains , underground etc? All advice appreciated.

The updated link for that rental is: http://tinyurl.com/msl6t4s

The cash deposit that they ask for has also risen, to 500€.

They do not accept credit cards - cash only!

They will deliver it to (and collect it again from) your hotel in Munich, but this will cost an extra fee.

last yr we traveled to Germany with 80 yo mother using a walker, DBahn train system has a assistance center . we used them for wheelchair assit in Wurzburg, meet walk assit directions for short connection in Fulda, assist in Erfurt. all done by email after we had purchased special fare train tickets. Maybe something that would help you in Munich. We did see several motor 3 wheel scooters along with several other walers on trains; in wheelchair handicap section, did not in fact see scooters get on or off. figured station provided a ramp assist.

to help getting about the city itsself, heres the info site of the city tourist office on how to manage munich barrier free

www.muenchen-tourismus-barrierefrei.de/en/

Heres a map of the underground and sbahn system showing which stations are barrier free (most are, with some exceptions)

mvv-muenchen.de/en/…index.html

All busses and 98% of trams are suitable for wheelchairs(exception is a few relief services ran at peak times, but wait 2 min an a normal one comes along anyhow)

Tks for the information. €500 cash deposit seems a bit much. No problem doing it by credit card - but cash!!! I wonder are there any other companies offering short rentals? Also I note trains are wheelchair accessible - can I take it the scooters can be brought on public transport?

You can try sending these guys an e-mail: http://rollstuhl.dsuds.de/5.html

However, these are small stores and small stores in Germany almost never accept credit cards unless tourists are their main business.
