Any small, quiet, authentic restaurants in Munich?

I'll be visiting Munich in the middle of September, and want to eat in authentic German cuisine restaurants, to taste the authentic local food. However, all the beer halls and all similar restaurants seem to big and noisy to me, and I would like a smaller, quieter one instead. My hotel is near the central train station but about anywhere in the city is fine(old town maybe?).

Any recommendations?

TIA

Try out Bratwurstglöckl near Marienplatz. I mean, of course a restaurant in the city center is not that "quiet", but you can't compare it to Hofbräuhaus, for instance, at all. This is a normal restaurant where the locals go.

What is authentic as well is a beer garden, for instance that in Englischer Garten, near Chinesischer Turm. This is not just a tourist thing, but this is where many locals go to have a meal, too. And these are authentic Bavarian dishes as well. If you don't want it to be crowded, go there at noon. You might meet some locals having their meal - people from the nearby companies go there on their lunch break sometimes.

Maybe I forgot to mention, but what I meant is a restaurant for having dinner... that's why I'm looking for a small, quiet one.

I don't want to state the obvious, but you do know that authentic Bavarian food is mainly pork, pork and again pork?

About what you're looking for, I think the restaurant "Zum Alten Markt" would fit the bill, it's on my map of recommended restaurants: http://tinyurl.com/munich-restaurants

Oh alright - I thought you just didn't want it to be a crowded tourist trap.

Thanks. And yes, I know it's mainly pork.

How's the restaurant "Ratskeller"? does it fit the type of restaurant I'm looking for?

The Ratskeller is very big, it seats 1,200 people.

I second Zum Alten Markt.

I'm not sure the big places are noisy, though. Hofbraeukeller can be very quiet.

I like Duernbraeu (http://www.zumduernbraeu.de/) and of course there's always Altes Hackerhaus, large but lots of small rooms. Courtyard can be very peaceful. http://www.hackerhaus.de/

Thank you all for your replies.

I just hope that when I do come to one of these restaurants I won't have to wait very long...

Anymore suggestions?

Zum Alten Markt tops my list as well. It really doesn't come much better than this. Make a reservation so you won't be disappointed. It is small but popular with locals. So, busy but quiet & reserved with IMO the best food in all of Munich
