Neuschwanstein trip - hotel , castle renovation query.

Hello experts,

We are a family (2 and 2 kids 14 ,11) will be visiting the castle as a part of our trip to Austria.

We will be travelling by train from Salzburg and planning to stay for a night in a : Hotel Waldmann,Alterschrofen.

1. How far is this hotel from the castle, can this place be reached by public transport? Or if we take a taxi what will be the cost?

2. What will be status of the scaffoling around the castle? Will the view from the Mary Bridge be fine without scaffolding.

3. If we book online for both the castles (8:00 am ) will 4 hrs be fine for both castles visit, mary bridge walk for taking some pictures .? After this we need to return to salzburg on the same day.

Thanks.

1. Alterschrofen is between Füssen and Hohenschwangau. 3 minutes by bus. 2 km to walk.

DB timetable

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

Start: Salzburg Hbf

Destination: Rohrachweg, Schwangau-Alterschrofen

Destination: Hohenschwangau, Schwangau (Schlösser)

Select as means of transport "only local transport" if you want to travel on a Bayern Ticket (EUR 26 for all of you together). Covers also the buses to Alterschrofen.

Yes, as the scaffolding is on the opposite side.

3.

https://www.hohenschwangau.de/551.0.html

Ticket center opens at 08:00. Thus the first tour will be at 09:00. Hohenschwnagau 35 min tour. 1 hour transfer. Neuschwanstein 35 min tour.

Honestly I would not travel that far just for these 2 castles.

Visit Herrenchiemsee instead which is much closer to Salzburg. Another one of King Ludwig II's castles. From the interior even more impressive.

and for the 2nd day Berchtesgaden/Lake Königssee if this is not already on your itinerary.

Both can be done easily as day trips from Salzburg. But you can of course also stay in Prien or Berchtesgaden or in between.

According to reviews, it's about a 30 - 40 minute walk to Neuschwanstein from this hotel. If you take the bus from Fuessen, ask the driver where to get off. You can of course take a taxi from the train station in Fuessen.

When you tour the castles you would probably want to leave your luggage at the hotel, since there's no place to store it at the castle, and then return for it before your train. Depending on which train you take it will be 4 - 6 hours from Salzburg to Fuessen/Schwangau, since you have to go via Munich.

Haven't most of your questions been answered in your other post?

It would have been far better to continue on that thread, so regulars here can keep some track of the status of your plans and provide advice based on all information.

Thanks Abalada ,emilysmom !

Thanks for those info.Actually we had plans to stay for five nights in Anthering, but since my girls are so much passionate to visit their dream disney castle, (i fear we will not be able to visit this region in near future) decided this week only to book a hotel in fussen for a night (leaving our main lugagges in anthering itself) and make a 2 day trip around the castle and munich.

After this we have 3 more days in Anthering, in which we plan to visit Hallsattt, Bertchesgaden, Ramsau, and SOM tour.

Thanks a lot.

Hi westendgaz,

Yeah most of my queries were answered already, but after your valuable suggestion (in the other post) to stay at Fussen for a night, now again change in plans. So thought that if i post in this forum i'd get details about the hotel and other things.

Thanks a lot !

No problems Prethi, but still best to leave all your posts on the one topic in one place.

Enjoy Fussen and the castles.

Hi experts,

We are all set to visit the beautiful castle on 24th of March (sunday) .This is our plan:

1 . Salzburg to Munich - 7:50 (dep) - 9:33 (arr) EC (booked this tickets separately )

2. Munich to Fussen - 9:52 (dep) - 11:54 (arr) ( bayern tickets purchased)

3. Fussen to - Alterschrofen -12:05 (dep) - 12:10 (arr)

Leave luggaes in our hotel and then take 12:45 bus to castle 12:53 arrival.

We have booked the Neuschwanstein castle visit time as 2:00 pm.

Hope this time will do to collect tickets.

Now assuming we'll take the bus to the castle, Which one should we do first? The castle visit or walk to the Mary Bridge?

we 'll be staying in the hotel and then back to Munich the next day morn.

Thanks to all the experts who made my plans for this part of my trip so easy !

Prethi.
