Christmas 2007 markets

Three of us hoping to visit Berlin beginning of December, can anyone tell me where the best market/s are? Are there lots of markets spread out or are they centralised? Any advice/tips greatly appreciated. Thanks

"Best" - this is quite subjective, isn't it? There are some 50 markets, most are active only at the weekend or even only in one week.

From the larger ones, the one is Gendarmenmarkt is pretty impressive, the one in Schlossplatz is very good with children, as is also the one in Breitscheidplatz (Europa Centre). The one in Alexanderplatz has an ice-rink, and the one in the Kulturbrauerei is "ecological". The one Spandau is very traditional.

The markets are spread all over town - it is a German tradition, in every traditional market square, even if it is naturally all touristy today.

As mentioned before Berlin has more than just one Christmas Market. Most of them are within the city centre but some are in the suburbs.

I would look for a nice hotel in Central Berlin. You will definitely be able to visit a couple of the markets.

Nearer the time you will find information of all the Christmas markets on the the site of the tourist information www.btm.de
