I can assure you that you have nothing to be concerned about - it's a very nice and central hotel in Alexanderplatz. The rooms are a bit small, and it is a large hotel, so if you prefer a more personal treatment, this is certainly not a boutique hotel.

We stayed at the Park Inn in Alexanderplatz in November and it was fine. Great location - railway station and metro just the across the square from the hotel. You can take the train from Schonefeld Airport to Alexanderplatz (takes about 30 mins) and then it's only a few metres to the hotel. Much of the centre of what was East Berlin is in walking distance. Close to Mitte with great restaurants, bars etc. We had a room on the 34th floor and the views were amazing. Rooms were modern, stylish and comfortable. We've stayed in Chief O'Neill's (now the Park Inn) in Smithfield and the decor and layout of the rooms were pretty much of the same standard. Breakfast was very nice. There's a casino on the top floor if you fancy losing your shirt!

Forgot the shopping bit - Galeria Kaufhof,a large department store with a really nice foodhall, is next door to the Park Inn. A couple of hundred yards away is Alexa, a new 3 storey shopping mall. You can also walk to the Hackescher Markt and you can take the metro to the shopping areas of Kurfurstendaam, Friedrichstrasse, and Wilmersdorfer Strasse.

Just back from the a 4 night stay in the Park inn and have to say we couldn't have picked a better place to stay for getting around with the Uban 30 meters from the hotel and the train station just 50 meters. The hotel rooms are small but comfortable and well furnished except for the toilet which looks like an after thought and has no privacy at all so make sure you’re travelling with someone you know well. The breakfast is very good with plenty of choice and the view from the 30th floor is worth the money on it’s own. THE NEGITIVES are The bar lacks any atmosphere and are charging €4.80 a pint so avoid also the casino is sleazy and unless you like roulette min bet €2 you'll need to have a deep pockets as blackjack tables have a min €10 bet and that’s about all they have there .A casino with no poker tables I ask you!! You need to show your passport to get in and wear a blazer or a tie The Hotel has no smoking policy which includes your room. I stood in reception 1 evening under a sign that says telephone and asked to make a phone call she told me to go to my room and make it? Cheeky cow. Overall as a base it’s second to none and would highly recommend it but it’s lacking in customer service and atmosphere.

In the Park Inn Alexandplatz rooms, there is a toilet door. It is shared between the adjacent separate toilet and shower cubicles. In other words, you swing the toilet door around to close the shower when using it and back again to the toilet when you have finished showering. I've seen this in a number of hotel chains where space is at a premium. If you are using the shower and toilet at the same time, then one of you will be doorless, but at least you won't be in view of each other!
