What is the vibe like in Friedenau?

We are considering a home exchange with a couple in Friedenau. The pictures look great and it looks like a short commute to center City, but . . .?

Can anyone provide feedback on what the area is like - who lives there, what kind of vibe does the place have, what are shops and restaurants like and how long does it take to get into center city?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Friedenau ist a nice area, most of it is a residential area with a few shops and restaurants inbetween. It is not one of Berlins trendy and/or posh areas like Mitte or Prenzlauer Berg but nevertheless a nice area with a mixture of singles and families.

Berlin hasn't really a proper city centre which you might know from other towns and cities. The city centre is fairly wide spread. Anyway, from Friedenau it is easy to get anywhere in the city centre with the Ku'Damm (Charlottenburg) area a bit closer than Mitte. Depending on where you want to go into the city centre it can take you anything from 10 to 40 minutes.
