I'm going to Berlin in October and wondered if I should buy tickets in advance, online for the Pergamon Museum and any other attractions, to beat the queues?

I don't think it's necessary, and in any case I wouldn't want to commit myself in advance to going to a museum at a particular time on a particular day. What if the sun is shining that morning, and the autumn leaves are glowing, and it's a perfect day for a walk in the Tiergarten, or a boat cruise?!

The best time to go to the Pergamon Museum is at opening time, when you will then have a good half hour of peace and quiet to enjoy the Pergamon Altar and the Miletus Gate before the crowds arrive. Get there a little before ten. But if that's not possible, I don't think you will find long, time-consuming queues at any time of day in October.

As for other attractions, there are no others for which advance booking might be useful, apart from the Neues Museum at the height of the tourist season - but that's over, so you won't have any problems in October.

You dont have to but, in my opinion, closer to the time (3-4 days before attending) it would be worth while booking online in advance as you will not risk any queues and you go straight to the entrance.

There was one attraction I found on a recent trip that you need to book in advance online otherwise you have to queue for last minute slots that "may" be available. This is specific to the Deutscher Bunderstag (parliament building) and you also need your passport to enter.

It is true that you must book in advance for the Bundestag (Reichstag): you cannot get in without booking. Here is the link"

But I really don't think that it is necessary or sensible to book for the Pergamon Museum, for the reasons I've already given. Get there early, is the best advice, if you want to see its extraordinary artefacts at their best, in peace and quiet - although, in October, it won't be especially crowded.

For Pergamon and Neues Museums, I was there last week and no lines anywhere. In fact they wouldn't even let me book a time at the start of the day, I could just come and go as I pleased. I was there mid-afternoon and was surprised how un-crowded both were.

And it's still September. There will be even fewer visitors in October.
