'Cost absorptions'

I have a booking at a Berlin hotel for next month.The booking was made through a third party website which I frequently use.

The confirmation e-mail includes this advice:- ***ATTENTION*** Cost absorptions are only accepted in exceptional cases.The hotel charges a handling fee of 4,80 Euro per each cost absorption.Please contact the hotel directly regarding this payment method.

This appears to suggest that 'cost absorption' is a method of payment.

Google translates 'cost absorption' to 'Kostenübernahme' and translates 'Kostenübernahme' to 'reimbursement'.

I can't figure out what is being advised here.Can anyone clarify please?

Thanks.

<Kostenübernahme Erklärungen>

A "Kostenübernahmeerklärung" seems to be a written declaration by some organisation that it will cover the costs (i.e. pay the bill) of someone staying in the hotel, e.g. a declaration by a company that it will pay the hotel bill of one of its employees who stays in the hotel while on a business trip.

The hotel bill would be sent direct to the company, and not settled on the spot by the guest.

Here is an example ilseder-landkrug.de/download/kostenuebernahm…

The German text you quote says that this hotel will accept such declarations only in exceptional cases, and will charge €4.80 "administration fee" each time !

Thanks for the clarification Colin.

If that's what it means it won't apply to me as I'm a private traveller and nobody else pays my hotel bills for me!
