Christmas Market during Tegel 10 hour layover

We will have a 10 hour layover this Sunday at the Berlin airport and I want to ask followup question. We may practically only have 5 hours to spend in the City (9-2) and depending on the weather we thought we might just take a Taxi to a Christmas Market, then take a taxi back to the airport giving us plenty of time for check-in. Which Market would be best to be able to Taxi back and forth to Airport, while providing a little walk around sight seeing. It seems Spandau and Charlottenburg Palace are on the walking tour (if we had enough time to take the afternoon tour). Thanks in advance.

Charlottenburg is one of the nicest in town,it is also fairly close to the airport. I think that the market does not open untill 11 on a Sun.

Thank you,. Realizing we would be arriving early around 7 AM, I suspected that we may have only 2-3 hours when everything is open and that is why I am reducing out plans. Is it easy to hail a Taxi near the market or do you need to proceed to a Taxi stand?

Easy to reach from Tegel are the one on Breitscheidplatz at the KuDamm, in front of Schloß Charlottenburg and the one in Spandau.

The one on Breitscheidplatz opens at about 11am and you can acutally easily get there by bus with the bus X9 or 109 from the airport to Zoologischer Garten.

The one in Spandau should also open around 11am. It is also fairly easy to get there by public transport. Take the bus X9 or 109 to the underground station Jakob-Kaiser-Platz, from the U7 to Rathaus Spandau.

The one in front of Schloss Charlottenburg opens up from Monday till Thursday at 2pm, from Friday till Sunday on 12pm. You can get there with the bus 109 to the stop Luisenplatz/Schloß Charlottenburg

Thank you BerlinGal is taking the bus difficult for a first time visitor who does not speak German? I know the Taxi would be more, but given how little time we had maybe it makes sense. although since everything opens a little later in the day maybe we can take a bus from the Airport there, and catch a Taxi back. Does Bus 109 run from the Airport?

Tegel is a small and pretty efficient airport, and if you arrive on time, you'll be on your way within an hour. Even if you have to check in two hours before your departing flight, and allowing for travelling to and from whatever destination you decide on, that leaves you a good 6 hours to enjoy Berlin. A little better than 5!

Berlin is much more than the Christmas markets - and you're unlikely to want to spend 6 hours in one, however nice it is. Here are a couple of ideas for spending your time before the markets open.

If you decide to go to the Charlottenburg market, you could spend the time exploring the beautiful formal gardens and the Schlosspark - or even take a tour of the Schloss. If that doesn't appeal, or if the weather is terrible, there are three important art museums just across the road.

If you decide on Breitscheidplatz, you could pay a visit to the Zoo, and if you decide on Spandau, you could tour the Citadel.

You might as well take the bus in the morning, as it's so early. Bus 109 does run from the airport, and it's not difficult: the stops are called out, and are also displayed inside the bus, so you have visual and audible information without asking. BerlinGal has given you the names of the stops. You do need to buy your ticket before boarding the bus, and you can do this inside the airport at the BVG stand.

You'll have no difficulty getting a taxi at Charlottenburg or Zoo - I'm not sure about Spandau.
