Rent a car in Germany from Dollar or Thrifty at your own risk!! We rented a car for one day from Dollar through Orbitz. At counter, we were told that they don't accept the CDW of any credit cards except a Gold or Platinum Mastercard and the card must be accompanied by a personal letter with our name and address stating that the card company will accept damages in Germany. Of course no one travels with such documents so they will not rent you the car unless you take their insurance, either the regular or super at the rate of €30/ daily and that is for a compact. This rate goes up substantially for a more expensive car. This Super CDW covers damages only after the first €600. We returned the car less than 24 hours later and they found a tiny scratch on the driver's door; (who knows how long it had been there;) it was almost invisible. They charged our credit card €600. THIS IS A SCAM. Who would have thought that in proper Germany, one would find such shady dealings. Shame on Orbitz for letting them offer their cars through their service.
