Pergamon Altar to be closed

Due to the refurbishment of the Pergamon Museum, the Pergamon Altar will be closed for the public from September 2014 for approximately FIVE years.

Parts of the exhibition will be shown in a separate building during this time.

So, if you want to come and visit the museum, hurry up!

Glad I was able to see while I could in it's entirely. Are they going to make it bigger and better or something?

Yeah sure, they are going to make it much better and above all much bigger. Don't know what the old Greek were thinking building it that small. It will have light and sound effects in future and comic style old Greeks walking around telling stories. I wish they would do some serious restauration work at Neuschwanstein, too, the real thing in Disney World looks so much better //*ironieoff

Hopefully they will make the museum more wheelchair friendly, it was the one museum that was impossible for me to push my mother around more than a small portion!

Never got around to going back on my own!

According to that article the central section of the building with the Pergamon room will be shut for " two, three years". However considering what's happening on other big building projects in Berlin, maybe it is safer to assume 5 even for the altar!

One hopes that it will not go the way of BER ! I like the location of Tegel anyway so I am happy :-)

Sadly though I guess this will add more mess to the Unter den Linden area.
