Eating and drinking near Gendarmenmarkt

I'm going on a stag do with 14 friends in June, group age 35-46. We're staying at the Hilton in this area and I was looking for information on any bars in this area where we can get a meal at a reasonable price and a stein. The groups to big and disorganised to go to a nice restaurant, so somewhere more laid back is preferable.

The Augustiner is large, loud, laid back, and fun: decent Bavarian food, and (I would imagine) a good choice of beers, but as I'm not a beer drinker I can't be sure.

Some of the TA reviews speak of "grumpy" service, but that wasn't my experience: on one visit I had excellent fast, no-nonsense service half an hour before a concert, which was what I wanted. The wait staff are efficient and quick: they're quick because they've no time to waste in a popular, huge, always-full restaurant.

You will need to book ahead: even tables for one and two are in demand.

For something more upmarket/more expensive, AIgner might suit:

Both restaurants are about ten seconds walk from the Hilton.

Lowenbrau, mentioned by Pericoloso on your duplicate thread, is similar to Augustiner - large, loud, laid back and fun. It's cheaper, and the food isn't as good - at least I didn't think so, but my experience of both is limited. You might not have to book ahead at Lowenbrau.
