Hi,

look at www.bvg.de

S1 operates every 10mins and the express trains every 30 mins.

From the central station you can change to the direct bus to Sanssouci, then you are not in danger that you see too much of Potsdam.

Potsdam is a very picturesque city, you can easily spend two to three days there.

We took the S7 train out there anyway (3 stops from Wannsee) and we went ahead to visit the Schloss Sanssouci Palace.

Travel time depends from your starting point (less from West Berlin, more from East Berlin in Berlin and mean of transport. In general: 30 minutes by train(Regionalexpress RE1, 20-40minutes) and 40 minutes by S-Bahn(30-50 minutes).

Potsdam is part of the fare zone Berlin C. So you can buy Berlin tickets for either fare zone Berlin ABC or BC (BC if you start outside Berlin's center, marked by the S-Bahn circular line). In general a day ticket or a ticket for several days makes sense.
