we saw all of those things except (well the outside of them) the Ghost Station and the Russian embassy on our walking tour - and yep, you can then choose to go back and explore any of them in more detail

You haven't said which company you'll be doing the tour with. Insider Tours and Berlin Walks are both very good: their guides are knowledgeable, and they are paid to do their job. Avoid the so-called "free" walking tours, which don't pay their guides. You'd be expected to tip, it wouldn't be any cheaper, and probably wouldn't be as good.

I don't know if the tour will actually walk you past the synagogue - it's a bit off the route. Its golden dome will certainly be pointed out, though.

"we've decided to do a walking tour"

As has been stated already, as long as you chose either Original Berlin Walks or Insider Tours you are in good hands.

Original Berlin Tours (berlinwalks.de/public/…Discover)

berlinwalks.de/public/…mainsights

or

Insider Tours (insidertour.com/tours.php/cat/27/id/40/title…)

You don't have to pre-book (I don't think you can). Just turn up. Enjoy the tour.

original berlin tours, say you can book on line for a 5% discount.

But I think we will wait till the day to see what the weather is like.

thanks.

Have you investigated the Welcome Card? It offers 200-odd discounts on attractions, museums, theatre, etc, including all the walking tours, as well as covering all your usage of the whole of the public transport network. It will give you a 25% discount on the Berlin Walks tour.

Yes if you get the Welcome Card as Alabastron has stated some of the benefits of it, however you haven't mentioned to see how many days you will be in Berlin to see if it is worth it or not?

It's always "worth it", Jordan. However long the visit, one of the versions - 48 hours, 72 hours, or 5 days - is sure to suit.

Some good examples of savings that can be made with the Welcome Card:

www.visitberlin.de/en/article/general-faq

There is really no reason not to have it: the cost is only marginally more than day tickets, and the savings can be considerable.
