All the usual attractions are open throughout the year, however it seems the boat trip from Cologne only starts from late April (this was the case for 2013, according to the KD Rhine website (www.kdrhine.com)

Please note, that the street carnival is between 27/02 and 04/03, with Rosenmontag the busiest day with the main parade in Cologne. This is just a heads up in case you are looking at this specific weekend. It is a great time to be in Cologne though, with celebration, music and parades throughout Cologne, and most people wearing fancy dresses. However, it could be difficult to find hotels on short notice.

If it's the very beginning of March you'll end up in the middle of carnival season.
