You can take a look at the March and April newsletters from Iberian Traveler (iberiantraveler.com/it_newsletters.html) for some information on this area. They also have an interesting travel blog with much of the same information.
With only 10 days, I would skip Portugal this time.
www.viamichelin.com will help you plan your route. A couple of years ago we took the route from Roses into S. France (Collioure, Argeles sur mer), making a small detour to Cadaques & Port Lligat where Dali lived (there is also a Dali museum in nearby Figueres). The road is very steep & winding, but has spectacular views. You could visit a couple of places in S. France, maybe Carcassone. Lynda, LE for Barcelona, always recommends Ceret. You could possibly return through the Pyrenees for more spectacular scenery.
Try to include Girona in your trip, a beautiful medieval walled city, worth staying a night if you can. http://www.ajuntament.gi/turisme/index.php
