rail or auto

we are traveling from madrid to seville and then to granada and malaga. From malaga we shall return to madrid to catch a flight back to the states. Does it make sense to rent a car or take the rail. Is there much difference between tourist class and first class on the train.

Renting a car you could visit Cordoba and the Mesquita, on the way to Seville.

Travel from Seville to Granada via Ronda and the Andalucian White villages

www.andalucia.com/villages/home.html www.turismoderonda.com

Then onto Granada and to buy Alhambra tickets, read top questions on the Granada forum

Car rental www.auto-europe.com www.auto-europe.co.uk

Non EU citizens require an International Driving permit for Spain

Should you choose the train, schedules and times www.renfe.es

Second class on Spanish trains are best value.

A car gives you flexibility but there is no free parking and hotels charge 11 euros a night for parking.

Rail travel in Spain is very good and easy. Read Buying Renfe Tickets Online. Tourist class is very comfortable and there is no reason to go first class.

' Does it make sense to rent a car or take the rail' -

No, if all you want to see are the cities you advise. You do not say over what period this trip is but Madrid to Seville and Malaga to Madrid loses six hours (non-stop) for each journey when driving, effectively two days. Both journeys are less than three hours by train, centre to centre. Your car rental is a wasted extra financial burden in any city.

'Is there much difference between tourist class and first class on the train' - Negligible and not worth the extra cost, judge for yourself with descriptions and 'photos on the RENFE site.
