10 Days in Spain-young couple

Hi all!

We are a young couple in our mid 20's and we are going to Spain for the first time for 9 days.

We fly into Madrid in the afternoon on Friday, July the 13th and leave from Barcelona in the morning on Sunday the 22nd.

We plan to stay 3 to 4 nights in both Madrid and Barcelona and want to do a half a day trip to Toledo while in Madrid.

That would leave us with and extra night or 2 to go somewhere else. We were thinking of either Seville or Valencia? Where should we go?

We are not so into museums and dont plan to do much shopping, but we love pretty much anything else. Nice sightseeing, history, good food, decent nightlife, wow factor, outside activities and are also into modern new cool stuff ( but dint want u to be thrown off cause we love history as well). Also, we don't care about the weather, we come from tropical countries so heat not an issue. Another point to add, we have beautiful beaches in our home country so not so interested in this but then again maybe a day at the coast would be nice. Also, we would like to use the fastest means of travel to cover more and travel less.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!!! I'm so excited!!

Thanks in advance.

A day trip to Toledo takes the whole day because there is so much to see there. Read about this day trip in the top questions of the Madrid forum.

You can do another day trip to Segovia.

There are so many things to see in Madrid and Barcelona that I would divide my time between them. Take the AVE between Madrid and Barcelona. Read Buying Renfe Tickets Online.

In Barcelona, take a day trip to Montserrat.

Thanks for the responses!!

This is the itinerary we have decided on:

Arrive to Madrid on the afternoon on Friday July 13th.

Saturday: Madrid

Sunday : Madrid

Monday: Spend all day in Toledo and sleep that night in Madrid

Tuesday: Leave early morning to seville by train spend all day and night there

Wednesday: leave for Barcelona around 1 pm by flight

Thursday: Barcelona

Friday: Barcelona

Saturday: Barcelona

Sunday: leave in the morning

What do you guys think of this? Are we trying to cover too much??

Do you guys have top 5 things to do in each city??

Thanks again!

You are trying to put too much into a very short trip. 10 days is just enough time for Madrid and Barcelona. Great daytrips from Madrid include, Segovia, Avila and Toledo. If you don't like museums you might consider Segovia or Avila. You could spend 5 nights easily in Barcelona. If you must stay somewhere else Tarragona has great Roman ruins, beach and nightlife and is convenient to getting to the Barcelona airport. You could also spend a night or two on the costa Brava but I would not travel across the country to Seville or Valencia. Seville deserves at least 3 nights and you can't go to Andalucia without visiting Granada for 2 nights. I know everyone wants to do it all but Spain is a big country and is best seen on 3 separate trips. Do you have any idea how hot it's going to be?
