I'm planning on booking a villa holiday for next year. I'd rather (for many reasons) book through a company. Travelopo seem to have a huge portfolio - does anyone have any feedback on them or their properties?

This is a directory of properties, like many others, and contact is with individual owners.

I have to mention that used travelopo for booking a 2 week rental villa in Porto Cervo in Italy this summer. I was actually really pleased with the way they advised me on which villa to choose. The person helping me was extremely friendly and he even managed to speak to the owner and persuade them to give us a small but useful discount. Good service and good value.

Dear WomBatt,

Thanks for giving your feedback. Our model is slightly different from the many directories available on the web. Essentially we are an online travel agent (a member of ABTA - the Association of British Travel Agents) that specialises in holiday rentals. Our catalogue consists of properties that are maintained by professional property managers and agencies throughout Europe, with whom we have established relationships for a number of years.

Renting a holiday home with Travelopo allows customers to have financial protection on their booking, coupled with the security of knowing that the property they book is maintained by people who have a professional understanding of the expected standards of holiday homes. As a company we believe these two main factors are what separate us from the many property directories out there on the web.

Also, because of the agreements we have with agency partners we are able to offer our villas at the best available prices on the web.

If you have any further queries about the company, feel free to drop me an email at craig@travelopo.com

Kind regards,

Craig Macintosh

Don't touch them with a bargepole.

They sell hard, but pass you on to a local agent.

My villa was way overpriced - local agents don't know what Travelopo charge. The quality was way off the price. I paid £13k for a 2 week holiday in Ibiza, and the property was tired and not that clean.

Travelopo advertised is as air conditioned - it wasn't.

Avoid, and get a more local one who cares.

I am extremely disappointed with the service we have received from Travelopo.

Myself and a group of friends rented a villa in Ibiza at the beginning of summer.

Although we also had issues with the description of facilities (e.g. air conditioning that was non-existent) the reason I would never book with them again is that we have still not had our refundable security deposit refunded!

We paid £600 as a "refundable security deposit" on booking the villa, which they said would be returned within 14 days of vacating the property. We have been back 7 weeks now and we have not had the money returned. Not only have they not provided a reason for this I am amazed to say that they have not even bothered to respond to our many emails sent to several different people and departments over the last few months.

They were very helpful and easy to contact when we were making the booking and giving them all our money, but I am very disappointed that I have now had to resort to posting this on a public site (which I have never done before) in the hope that it finally prompts a response. I am not usually one to complain but £600 is a lot of money to us and to fail to even answer our requests is at the very least rude and unprofessional.

If this has happened to anyone else please can you let me know if/how you managed to get your money back. WeI have sent so many emails to everyone with no reply and they dont give out a telephone number...

Thanks

Dear John,

My apologies for having not seen your tripadvisor post until now. I am pleased to see from your private correspondence with our reservations team that the situation was rectified.

I would like to reiterate our sincerest apologies for the inaccuracy within the description of the property you booked and for the condition you felt the property was in.

Travelopo works with the most established agencies and property managers throughout Europe to be able to offer our clients a catalogue of the most reliable rental properties on the continent. A core element to this service is the accuracy of property descriptions, pricing and availability, which our agency partners are responsible for providing to us. Very occasionally issues such as those you experienced can happen, of which we greatly appreciate feedback.

Upon learning of the inconveniences caused by the discrepancies with the agency's villa and the property description that was on our website, we hope you felt our immediate action of requiring the agency to supply you with air conditioning units was appropriate, despite your declination of the offer.

We also spoke with the agency about your feedback with respect to its "tired" appearance and am pleased to say they have told us they will be looking into how they can make improvements over the winter. Once again, thank you for this feedback.

We have also advised the agency of the imperatives of maintaining a higher than expected standard of cleanliness. This is of the upmost importance to Travelopo and a requirement of all of our partners. From time to time cleaners can be overworked on changeover days which can result in these standards dropping, however, we have found that customer feedback on the issue has a very noticeable effect on agencies and their service improvements.

Regarding your comment that "local agents don't know what Travelopo charge". Travelopo work solely on a commission basis which is agreed by every agency. We do not mark up any prices.

I am also sorry to hear that you felt your correspondence with the rental manager with whom you arranged the booking through left you feeling that Travelopo "sell hard". This is the antithesis of the service which we pride ourselves on offering and I have reiterated this with the rental manager following your comments. Again, thank you for highlighting this. We believe that the quality and extent of our catalogue gives our destination experts the best platform on the web from which to assist clients in making sure they find the right property to meets their wants and requirements. This is the service we work to offer and constantly improve.

Thank you for your feedback and I am pleased that your situation was rectified.

Should you wish to contact me personally, please email me at customerservice@travelopo.com

Kind regards,

Craig Macintosh

Dear Emily,

My apologies for having not seen your tripadvisor post until now and also for the inconveniences you experienced with regards to the refundable security deposit.

I have sent you a private message through tripadvisor, requesting the booking number for your reservation. If you could respond with this information then I will be able to look into why the agency that supplied your villa took so long to approve the payment.

Travelopo policy requires that our agency partners confirm approval of repayment within 14 days after the client's departure. Given the inconveniences you experienced, I would very much like to know why this was not the case for you.

Please also let me know the contact details of the person who made the booking. I cannot find any corresponding booking that matches your name and we are required to correspond directly with the lead name. Given the previous inconveniences caused by what appears to be below standard levels of communication on our part, I will endeavour as best I can to ensure you are party to any further correspondence on the matter. Please note I am also keen to know why communication appears not to have been to our expected standard. With this additional information from you I will also be to address this matter appropriately.

If you could also please let me know further details regarding the discrepancies you experienced between the property and the property's description which the agency supplied to us, that would be greatly appreciated. This type of feedback allows us to help improve Travelopo's service and ensure our agency partners are meeting our required standards.

Once again, my sincerest apologies for the inconveniences you experienced and thank you for your comments.

Should you wish to contact me via email, please contact me at customerservice@travelopo.com.

Kind regards,

Craig Macintosh

Just booked a villa and paid a deposit with travelopo and after the 'sales man' sending me lots of emails on villas etc and seemingly very interested and helpful. After paying the deposit, I have now emailed him back asking a few more questions and he's not replying now!! Is this company genuine or a scam?! I don't know!? A simple courtesy email from him or the company answering my questions would help put my mind at ease, but I've now read a few comments from people asking if this company is genuine also!! Never booked a villa before with anyone that others ask if the company is genuine or not!! Have I been scammed out of my deposit?! And a pretence of a fantastic holiday in a few months?!
