Which cities to visit in 11 days in Spain?

We are 2x 26yr old female backpackers from Australia! We have 11 days in Spain in May and would love your suggestions as to where to visit!

We need to fly out of Barcelona but can fly into anywhere! We will probably travel within Spain on trains?

We love the outdoors, horse riding and a bit of adventure! Thanks :)

Start in Seville or if no convenient flight then Malaga for a visit to Andalucia. The coast line right along from Costa del Sol to Costa de la Luz has much interest although May is not the month when people flock to the beach therefore less problem with finding accommodation. If Malaga then you have options of either going up to Granada to visit this interesting city and of course see the Alhambra. Go by regular bus Malaga-Granada in about 2 hours. Read up about the Alhambra at the official web site:

Then from Granada take the train over to Ronda in the hills behind the coast - Serrania de Ronda. If your timing is good you could take in the sights at the annual Jerez horse fair : Feria del Caballo which is during the week 12th May. The middle of the week is good. You can take a bus from Ronda to Jerez or even stop at Arcos which is just short of Jerez and you can also use the bus from Arcos to Jerez. Several places to B&B in Arcos old town by the way. Or budget places in Jerez. From Arcos you have a bus to Seville twice a day costing under €10 or from Jerez a bus or train. Enjoy the flavour of Seville and you will want to stay longer. Consider booking early cheaper (if available) train tickets Seville to Barcelona and read up about doing this : Buying RENFE tickets online? Or you can fly to maximise time in Seville using http://www.vueling.com/EN

May is a great time to be outdoors in Spain !

My suggestion:

Madrid - 4 days (one day trip to Toledo and another to Segovia - Read about these day trips in the top questions of the Madrid forum.

Seville - 2 days - Take the train to Seville. Read Buying Renfe Tickets Online.

Granada - 2 days - Read Buying Alhambra Tickets Online and BOOK EARLY.

Barcelona - 3 days (one day trip to Montserrat)

My 2 bobs worth...

Start in Madrid stay 3 days - Recommend a day visit to Toledo and either El Escorial or Segovia.

Train to Valencia, stay 3 nights this is a great city nice local beach and many attractions to keep you busy.

Train to Barcelona 4nights again this city and surrounding area has enough to offer to keep a tourist busy for months.A trip to Montserrat is highly recommended.

Do lots of research on the things that are of interest to you.

All my suggestions are easy to get around using public transport. Buy your train tickets about 40 days before you travel and save $.

Have a look at www.airbnb.com for accommodation - some share-houses may surprise you with their deals plus you will have the bonus of in-house local advise.

Have a great time and like many others, you will be back to see and do lots more.
