Car hire - Argus Car Hire - be careful

Rented a car through Argus Car Hire in Aug 2010 to collect from Almeria airport.

Booking process and price all ok, customer service absolutely terrible.

Our flight was delayed by 6 hours and when we arrived at the airport the local hire company didn't have a car for us. Apparently the small print in the Argus T&Cs says you have notify the local hire company yourself when you are delayed for more than 2 hours. This is pretty difficult when you are stuck at the departure gate and don't have any contact details for the local hire company!

After being given a van for the day I had to return to the airport (4 hour round trip) and waste a whole day of my 1 week holiday waiting around at the airport to find they still didnt have a car for us. It transpired that they didn't have a vehicle for me in the first place regardless of the delay!!!!!

The Argus call centre told me to return the van, look for another company at the airport and that they sort something out on my return.

I had to pay for the one day I had the van with fuel costs and take out a second excess waiver insurance policy from the new hire company. When I called the insurance company booked through Argus from the airport and they told me that the policy from Argus was not transferable and that Argus should refund the money.

All very stressful when traveling with a heavily pregnant woman!

On my return when I wrote to Argus and gave them copies of all the paper work. They took 3 weeks to reply after regular and persistent chasing from me with a ridiculous response that they would refund nothing as I should have been happy with the van as it was more expensive than my original booking and that the insurance would have covered me on the second booking (despite the insurance company saying it didn't). I wrote back to complain again and ask for details on how to escalate my complaint they simply replied to say there was nothing more to say on the matter.

All I was asking for was a refund of the insurance and the original booking fee as I had been forced to make an independent booking outside of Argus. Why should they have earned any money out of this and leave me out of pocket?

What's most annoying is Argus's general obnoxious approach and complete disregard for our inconvenience. What terrible customer service.

I wish there was something I could do to take my complaint forward but I think all I can do is warn other prospective customers!!

deke. read the forum heading.

"province of Almeria forums/ Almeria forum."

yes, some highjack it for their own moan, but as Almeria is not in Australia, it does seem rather pointless to post it on an European forum. it should be on an AUSTRALIAN forum.

but I do agree with one point...you are indeed a sad woman!

beware

i booked through argus and got a terrible rental company called easirent car. misleading reservation literature to do with deposit held on card and excess. results in many customers like me having to buy premium insurance cover by having poorly worded reservation documents. The result is 'trapping' customers in the middle of no where locations having wasted half a day, and little alternative but to buy premium excess insurance cover.

Business model fail. Social networks, review sites, and forums ought to see business models like easirent bankruptcy.

argus are a broker. easirent are a broker! so argus would not transfer you to another broker!

who was the actual rental firm?

excess is clearly shown on t and co of the rental companies, and of course you have to pay for scdw, unless you are prepared to allow a hold on your cc to the amount of the excess. totally normal!

if you take the time to read the t and c of the rental company you use, you will find info about scdw etc.

did you sign agreeing that you read the t and c?

I ordered a car from Argus and they put me on pending for 4 days, just after i called them they told me that they didn't get confirmation on the car, and they cant deliver the car.

They offered me an alternative, to pay 60% more on car that is worse than the original car, i thought that it's a joke, but they were serious...

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR PREFER HITCHHIKING ON THIS COMPANY.

Argus are a totally rubbish "virtual" business. They are brokers to entirely reputable and respected Car Hire firms. However they are rubbish to deal with. I booked a car for collection at Belfast City Airport and chose Argus because they promised a vehicle at the airport. However, it was the wrong airport and my car was actually at Belfast International Airport a £30+ taxi ride away. Call them up and you are connected to an entirely unhelpful call centre in Poland who give you inaccurate information. My car was provided by Enterprise, was brand new and in excellent condition. Enterprise were fantastic and helpful to deal with. I decided that in future it is worth spending a few quid more and going direct rather than booking these through half-witted intermediaries. I have had a good experience with Auto-Europe and a diabolical one with Carhire3000 or whatever they are called these days. The latter tried to take my money for a car I didn't hire and I had to get my credit card company to intervene.

I should have run a review check on Argus Car Hire before booking with them. They automated message kept emailing to say someone from their customer service dept will be in touch with me on the on my complain on hidden extra charges that I was made to pay upon collecting the car but till now I have yet to receive a call or email from them. Also, I booked a Vios but was allotted a much lower grade car after payment was confirmed. Luckily on arrival at the Penang International Airport only Vios was available. My advice to you all out there, stay away from Argus. They are cheats and unscrupulous
